About

Hello, my name is Gaard Kets and I work as assistant professor of political theory at the department of Political Science at Radboud University. My research interests include the theory and practice of past and present forms of radical democracy, workplace democracy, council communism, social movements and revolution. In 2021, I defended my dissertation on council politics in the German Revolution of 1918-1919. I am currently involved in the research project Vive la Commune! as a postdoctoral researcher, where I study past and present forms of communalist politics. For more info on these projects, see the ‘research’ page. Lately, I also developed an interest in the nexus of epistemic democracy, workplace democracy and the struggle against climate change.

Next to my research, I teach in the Political Science bachelor and master programmes of Radboud University. My courses include Sociology, Philosophy and Ethics of Research and Urban Political Theory, and I also supervise bachelor and master theses, as well as a PhD student.

In addition to all that, because one is supposed to practice what one preaches, I currently represent the staff of our Faculty in the works’ council.
